Can the DJ also act as an MC? (This is like asking your photographer to shoot a video of your wedding at the same time he's taking your picture)
Naturally, we get asked this question everyday.
Amazingly, it is rare treat these days to find a disc jockey
who will speak clearly enough to inspire and motivate their audience to dance - they think it is just too uncool.
Most DJs hate to MC because all really want to do is mix the songs together.
This is surprising since most people at a wedding
would consider the ability to use a microphone confidently
an essential part of a DJs job.
So naturally, it is virtually impossible to find a DJ that can play music
and perform as a competent Master of Ceremonies with equal skill and success.
Even though there are well-known companies
who insist their operators can do both jobs at the same time,
one of the roles must suffer badly and it is usually the MCing part.
These companies use the 'free MC' sales pitch
to get you to use their DJ service
- and it seems like a good idea at the time
(until you ask for testimonials from any brides)
referring to the quality of their MCs.
There usually isn't any such tributes becuase the MCing is usually sub-standard.
For this arrangement to succeed,
you would need an extremely competent, experienced and skilful MC
who can also play some music - not the other way around!
You would need to be extremely animated from behind a console
to equal someone standing in the middle of the room speaking.
A DJ would also need a remote controller in order to play songs if they move away from the console. In all my years of MCing, I have never seen a DJ use a remote control – they are very unreliable to use and even more difficult to purchase.
As said before (but worth mentioning again) the DJ acting as the MC
is like asking the photographer to also shoot you a video of your wedding at the same time as he is taking your photos - both results will look lousy.
An MC needs exceptional communication skills where as a DJ needs exceptional mixing skills; both jobs require completely different preparations to be successful.
There really is no substitute for hiring both separately.
Who wants to know the secret to a great wedding reception?
HINT: It’s not the flowers or the music.
It’s not even the venue or the food.
The secret to a great wedding reception
is the person who brings all of these things together
and then delivers them with personality, humour and charm.
Yep, you guessed it – the Master of Ceremonies is the secret to a great wedding reception.
And the fact is:
your MC will make or break your wedding reception.
The MC (aka Emcee) has a very unique role to play at a wedding.
There are many duties to perform.
And let’s face it guys
– not everyone can be organised AND entertaining at the same time.
It’s a special skill. That's why we only use professional actors.
So instead of breaking it, a professional Master of Ceremonies
will help the reception run super smoothly by coordinating everyone
including your guests, the catering staff, the photographer and video camera-person, plus the DJ; so you can relax.
A great MC will also add the WOW factor – no doubt about it.
No matter what wedding reception you’ve attended - everyone remembers what the MC was like! Have a look (and listen) at the amazing testimonials sent to us from grateful couples who knew this secret and hired a professional MC from A WEDDING MC HOTLINE.
