DON’T HIRE YOUR MC WITHOUT READING THIS FIRST ….

Chose them carefully because the MC can make or break your wedding reception

There are hundreds of tough decisions to be made by a couple planning their wedding. Should we invite the long, lost relatives - and if we did, and they came - who would they sit next to at dinner?

But one of the toughest decisions to be made is who will be the Master of Ceremony? Who will acknowledge the bridal party, introduce the bride and groom, make announcements, and coordinate all the other duties without appearing nervous?

Up to now, couples gingerly looked through their guest list and offered the role to the person who was the most “out-going” or extroverted – or has some experience with a microphone – and then they hoped for the best.

Unfortunately, someone who is flamboyant does not automatically mean that they can also handle the demanding role of a wedding MC.

The choice of who will be your wedding MC is a serious decision and should not be taken lightly.

If it has not been done before, the role of a Master of Ceremonies can be a very stressful occasion. There is much planning, skill and spontaneity required in order to create the appropriate atmosphere, let the bride and groom have maximum time with their guests and manage all the other professionals.

The practise of using a guest has lead to disasters as well as triumphs. To help the bride and groom, a guest might innocently volunteer themself as the MC - or they might personally desire the experience for recognitions sake - the entertainer lurking within might be finally ‘discovered’ after all these years! This has TITANIC written all over it.

But couples worry about offending their friend by saying “NO” to this kind offer. The fun aspect of having someone familiar to MC their reception also tempts them; plus they could save some cash.

If this friend has had not had any previous experience as a wedding MC, they should go and practise at some other function, not the bride and groom’s.

One way a bride and groom can tactfully discourage an untried friend who has offered to MC is to point out the responsibilities that are involved in the job. These include limited drinking of alcohol, limited chance to dance and socialise, plus the considerable time needed to prepare.

Couples might also be tempted to use the DJ to act as their MC. This is like asking the photographer to shoot a video at the same time as he is taking the photos.

When you are spending thousands of dollars to make a dream come true, it’s crazy to chance all that potential in the hands of someone who is not experienced enough to make the most of it.

However, there is now a legitimate alternative to this uneasy situation. Enter - the professional wedding agency called A WEDDING MC HOTLINE.

Actors, professional Compere’s and TV presenters are now available for hire to make your wedding reception a guaranteed success. See http://www.weddingmc.com.au

Correct pronunciation, preparation, advice on speeches, confidence, enthusiasm and class are all part of the package when you take the stress off yourselves and give it to the professional Master of Ceremonies to co-ordinate every aspect of your important wedding reception.

Mutli-lingual MCs are popular because they can speak to many guests on a personal level. A professional will be sensitive to different customs and weave them effortlessly into the theme of the night.

You only get one chance to get it right so consider using a professional MC and avoid ending up on “The World’s Funniest Wedding Bloopers”.

If the bride and groom have chosen an experienced friend, they could purchase the book “YOU CAN BE A WEDDING MC” (written by Pete Miller) as a pre-reception “Thankyou” gift to the intending Master of Ceremonies. Available from: http://SpeakersCoach.org
